Weekly Wrap Up

On Wednesday, we had a visit from the West Van Field Hockey Association and they introduced us to the game and helped us learn some skills.

We learned how to hold the stick and which parts of the stick are allowed to come into contact with the ball.

Then we got to try!

We learned how to control the ball and how to stop the ball.

Then we played a quick game.

When I picked the class up from Music on Wednesday, Mrs. Gardiner (our Music teacher until Spring Break) was teaching us how to strum a guitar. I was just there for a moment but was very impressed with what I saw!

One more "P" sharing....pan

Today, we had a visit from "Lego Dave". Dave runs the after school Lego program at our school and he came in to our class to teach us about coding. We explored an app called "Scratch Junior" (it's a free one if you're interested in checking it out at home). And we learned how to use coding buttons to animate our characters. The kids worked so hard on this and did a fantastic job.

This is Dave. He donated his time to be here with us today and we loved it!

Even though it looks like the kids were very quiet during this time, there was lots of collaboration and discussion.

We have been learning all about light this week. We have explored shadows, our eyes' response to light, what causes day and night, artificial and natural sources of light, and properties of materials related to light. We learned that some materials are transparent, some are translucent, and some are opaque. Ask your child what he/she has learned about light. I bet you will be surprised!

We created some firefly artwork to showcase one natural source of light. They turned out beautifully. I have started to put the finished ones in the hallway. Please take a look the next time you are in the school.

Coming up.....

On Monday, we will have a Loutet Garden/Farm visit in our classroom.

Wednesday is Pink Short Day. It is a day where we highlight kindness and acceptance. There is information on the internet that shares the story behind pink shirt day if you would like more information. We encourage everyone to wear pink shirts, if possible. Sometimes wearing a white shirt over a red shirt works well too. But we also say that if you don't have a pink shirt, just wear a colour that makes you happy.

We will be learning outside for part of the day on Thursday, please dress your child appropriately.

The following week (March 2nd) please look for an email inviting you to sign up for parent teacher conferences. There will be early dismissals (2:00) on March 10 and 12.

Second term report cards will be published online on March 6th.
