We spent a good part of our day exploring light. We started by looking closely at our eyes and how they react to light. We observed our friends' eyes in the classroom light and noticed that their pupils looked medium sized.
Then we went out into the bright sunlight and noticed that our friends' pupils got really small.
Then we went into the house corner and turned off the lights and noticed that our friends' pupils got much larger. We talked about why we thought that happened.
Then we went outside and "caught" some shadows. We noticed where the sun was in the sky and where the shadows were in relation to the sun. We also noticed that our shadows are much taller than our actual bodies.
We also "caught" some shadows of objects that don't move, like this pole.
And this goal.
and the roof of the school. We decided to come back outside later in the day to see if the shadows stay in the same place all day.
We went inside and made some predictions about what we think will happen to the shadows over the rest of the day.
Then it was time for sharing. I realize that I didn't send a reminder home (long weekends always throw me off a bit). Some kids brought in sharing. Others would like to bring something in tomorrow (that is perfectly ok!)

We came outside again to discover that our pole shadow had indeed moved. We traced its new location. Then we all wrote our names to make a prediction about where we thought the shadow would be at the end of the day.
We also noticed that our goal shadow moved.
and the top of the school shadow
(I don't know why this picture showed up so far after the p sharing photos....but....pocket)
As we were exploring shadows, we noticed some very welcome signs of Spring.
So much fun!
