The Glorious Garden

We went on our first trip to Loutet Garden/Farm today (the first of 8 visits). Today was an introduction to the farm. We met farmers Stephanie and Fiona and we split into two groups to learn about the things that we will see at the farm.

Sunflowers

Beets

Turnips (under the tent)

Lettuce

We went into the greenhouse and saw some plants growing there too.

Zuccini

carrots

then, out in the garden, we saw (and tasted) dinosaur kale

We picked some tomatoes. We learned that tomatoes continue to ripen after they are picked. So we picked some not quite ripe tomatoes and brought them to the classroom to leave on the windowsill to ripen.

We learned about the honey bees and their important job in the garden.

Swiss Chard

A closer look at some sunflowers

The other group's turn to pick tomatoes.

We looked under a log.

Today, we also continued to paint our fall leaves.

A few kids created a very detailed and interesting habitat.

We attended an "Orange Shirt Day" assembly this afternoon.
